ABOUT THIS LESSON
Making a simple spending choice when the money is limited. The lesson helps students tell needs from wants and to make a simple spending choice with limited money.
TEACHING INSIGHT
Paul names food and clothing as needs, and calls contentment “great gain”. Wise stewardship means paying for what we need first, then choosing about wants on purpose rather than by impulse.
FACILITATION FOCUS
The main application is “Nia’s spending sort”, where students move from discussing the idea to trying it in a concrete example. Keep returning to the takeaway: “Pay for what you need first, then choose a want on purpose.” Look for whether students name an item as a need or a want and give a reason, rather than judging the person who buys it.
