Belonging, not fitting in
We are learning to distinguish being welcomed as yourself from changing to gain approval.
Learning Intention
We are learning to distinguish being welcomed as yourself from changing to gain approval.
Biblical Big Idea
Belonging is given by being part of one body, not bought by performing a false self. A group that truly welcomes you can still ask you to stop doing harm – correction that keeps your dignity is part of belonging.

ABOUT THIS LESSON
Telling the difference between being welcomed as yourself and changing for approval. The lesson helps students distinguish being welcomed as yourself from changing to gain approval.
TEACHING INSIGHT
Belonging is given by being part of one body, not bought by performing a false self. A group that truly welcomes you can still ask you to stop doing harm – correction that keeps your dignity is part of belonging.
FACILITATION FOCUS
The main application is “Belonging detective”, where students move from discussing the idea to trying it in a concrete example. Keep returning to the takeaway: “Belonging is received and welcomed, not bought by pretending.” Look for whether students name a cost that is about the person changing or hiding, not just about being disliked.
